In a significant move to bolster India's national export agenda, the fourth meeting of the Board of Trade (BoT) convened in New Delhi on Tuesday. The high-level gathering, chaired by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, centered on the ambitious vision of achieving USD 2 trillion in exports by the year 2030.
Bihar's Commitment on the National Stage
Representing the state of Bihar, its newly appointed Industries Minister, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, actively participated in the deliberations. He was accompanied by Shekhar Anand, the Director of Technical Development for the state. Minister Jaiswal used this platform to assert Bihar's proactive role in accelerating the country's export growth, reaffirming the state's commitment to contributing significantly to the national target.
A Concrete Plan for Export-Led Growth
Jaiswal detailed a multi-pronged strategy that the Bihar government is implementing. A key announcement was the plan to establish export-oriented units and a Star Export House within a newly announced Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This initiative is designed to enhance the state's export competitiveness by creating world-class infrastructure for processing and packaging goods.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the development of dedicated export clusters for high-potential products unique to the region. He specifically identified makhana (fox nuts) and honey as primary candidates. The focus will be on aligning the production and processing of these items with stringent international quality standards to meet the rising demand in global markets.
Seeking Central Support for a Level Playing Field
Recognizing the need for robust support mechanisms, Minister Jaiswal appealed for stronger backing from the Centre. He stressed the importance of enabling Bihar's exporters to fully access the benefits of the Export Promotion Mission. This support is crucial for providing easier access to funds, which would help in building international market linkages, establishing credit guarantee mechanisms, and rolling out capacity-building initiatives across the state's entire export ecosystem.
The state's industries department has pledged to work in close coordination with the Central government and various trade bodies. This collaboration is seen as essential to ensure that Bihar's unique potential is harnessed, allowing it to make a substantial and meaningful contribution to India's monumental export journey towards 2030.
