In a move to accommodate the surge in passenger traffic during the ongoing festive season, the South Western Railway (SWR) has announced the continuation of special train services between Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) Bengaluru and Bidar. The bi-weekly express specials will run for an extended period to clear the extra rush.
Detailed Schedule and Operational Plan
The railway division has released a clear schedule for the operations. Train No. 06539 running from SMVT Bengaluru to Bidar will operate on Fridays and Sundays. This service will be available from January 2, 2026, to February 27, 2026.
In the opposite direction, Train No. 06540 from Bidar to SMVT Bengaluru will run on Saturdays and Mondays. Its service period is from January 3, 2026, to February 28, 2026. During this nearly two-month window, each train will complete a total of 17 trips in each direction.
Passengers can note that these special trains will maintain their existing timings, all scheduled stoppages, and the current coach composition. This ensures consistency for regular commuters on this route.
Important Travel Advisory for January 2026
However, commuters need to be aware of a temporary disruption due to pre-planned engineering work. Non-interlocking work at SMVT Bengaluru station on January 4, 2026, will affect the services of the following weekend.
Consequently, Train No. 06540 (Bidar–SMVT Bengaluru) starting its journey on January 3, 2026, will be short-terminated at Yelahanka. The segment between Yelahanka and SMVT Bengaluru stands partially cancelled for that specific trip.
Similarly, Train No. 06539 (SMVT Bengaluru–Bidar) commencing its run on January 4, 2026, will short-originate from Yelahanka instead of SMVT Bengaluru. The section between SMVT Bengaluru and Yelahanka will be partially cancelled for that day's service.
Ensuring Smooth Festive Travel
The decision to extend these special services underscores SWR's proactive approach to managing seasonal demand. By adding 34 total trips (17 in each direction), the railways aim to provide relief and convenience to passengers traveling between the capital city of Karnataka and the historic town of Bidar during the busy holiday period. Travelers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, keeping the January adjustment in mind, and to confirm their train's status before heading to the station.
