The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has embarked on a major urban beautification and infrastructure project, approving a substantial plan to transform several key roads with thematic designs. The civic body has decided to undertake thematic street development for eight streets that connect the city's prominent Ashram Road to the Sabarmati Riverfront.
Iconic Road and Thematic Precincts Get Green Light
In a significant decision, the AMC has given its nod to develop Ashram Road as an 'Iconic Road' based on the 'Gaurav Path' or 'Path of Pride' theme. This is part of a broader vision that extends beyond a single road. The corporation has also resolved to carry out thematic development for three distinct precincts across the city: the Metro Precinct, the Sports Precinct, and the Education Precinct.
The financial outlay for this ambitious suite of projects is set at a considerable Rs 282.3 crore. The AMC has recently initiated the process by floating tenders for the project. The timeline indicates that once the tender is finalized within the next month, the detailed proposal will be presented to the AMC's road and building committee for final approval.
Roads Identified for Thematic Makeover
The eight streets slated for transformation under the Ashram Road-Riverfront connectivity plan are:
- The road connecting Usmanpura village to the Sabarmati Riverfront.
- The road connecting Usmanpura Riverfront Park to Gujarat Vidyapith.
- Sahitya Parishad Road.
- Vallabh Sadan Road.
- Flower Park Road.
- The road behind VS Hospital.
- The road near Paldi Varsha Flats.
- Biodiversity Park Road.
Focus on Sports: The SVP Sports Enclave Precinct
A major highlight of the plan is the development of the SVP Sports Enclave Precinct Area. This will span both sides of a 7-kilometer-long road stretching from the upcoming Sabarmati Multimodal Hub (near Ranip bus stand) to Koteshwar metro station. This road's selection is strategic as it connects directly to the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave.
The development here will be sports-centric and immersive. Plans include installing life-size sculptures of athletes, creating dedicated fitness zones for the public, erecting informational panels that showcase the achievements of India's Olympic medal winners, and setting up children's play areas. The chosen route follows the Metro line, starting from Ranip bus stand and passing through Power House Barrage Junction, Sabarmati Metro Station, and Stadium Metro Station before culminating at Koteshwar Metro Station.
Phased Approach for Sports Theme Precinct
While the AMC has identified roads around the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium and the Naranpura Sports Complex for the broader Sports Theme Precinct Area Development, the initial phase will concentrate on the aforementioned 7-km Metro route road flanking the under-construction Sardar Patel Sports Enclave around Narendra Modi Stadium.
