Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the state government has offered ample infrastructural support to the industrial estates and that it was now industries’ turn to give back to the state by hiring Goan youth.
He said 1,300 youths will be handed offer letters by May 2 or 3, after a recruitment drive was held in collaboration with Verna industrial estate. He added that if similar drives are held each month by a different industrial estate, it will help the Goa government eliminate unemployment.
CM’s appeal to industries
“We speak of ‘Make in Goa’, ‘Make for the world’, ‘Make for India’, but the most important aspect of it is making it with Goans. No doubt, all of you (industries) take the initiative. But we have often seen that when fewer Goans are engaged by industry, we have had to draw on human resource from regions like Sindhudurg and Karwar,” the CM told industry representatives at the Goa Occupational and Health Safety Expo, 2026.
“We have always supported industrial estates with infrastructure. Now it is your time to support government, Goan youths and the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation,” said Sawant.
Government’s support and expectations
The chief minister emphasized that the government has consistently provided infrastructural support to industrial estates, including road connectivity, power supply, and water facilities. He urged industries to reciprocate by prioritizing local talent in their hiring processes.
Sawant also highlighted the importance of the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation in bridging the gap between job seekers and employers. He encouraged industries to collaborate with the corporation for future recruitment drives.
The CM’s statement comes amid concerns over unemployment among Goan youth. According to official data, the state’s unemployment rate has seen a slight increase in recent months. The government aims to address this through targeted recruitment drives in various industrial estates across Goa.
