Southern Railway Revises Chennai Suburban Train Timings

Chennai: Southern Railway has announced revised timings for suburban Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train services on the Chennai Beach–Tambaram–Chengalpet section, effective from June 1. The changes aim to improve operational efficiency and enhance commuter services in one of the city's busiest rail corridors.

Revised Weekday Timetable

According to an official release, the revised weekday timetable will come into effect from Monday, with departures adjusted by 5 to 20 minutes earlier or later than the current schedules. For example, a Chennai Beach–Chengalpet service currently departing at 5:30 am has been rescheduled to 5:40 am, while a 6:00 am departure has been shifted to 6:20 am. Similarly, a service leaving Chennai Beach at 8:30 am has been revised to 8:50 am under the new timetable.

Sunday Timetable from June 7

A separate Sunday timetable will be implemented from June 7. The revised schedule covers Chennai Beach–Chengalpet suburban services and connected sections towards Tirumalpur, Kancheepuram, and Arakkonam.

Adjustments on Return Services

Return services from Chengalpet and Arakkonam-linked suburban corridors have also been adjusted under the revised schedule. The Chennai division has released annexures detailing the revised weekday and Sunday schedules for trains operating across the suburban corridor.

Railways have advised passengers to take note of the revised timings and plan their journeys accordingly. The changes were introduced to further enhance operational efficiency and improve commuter services in the region.
