Vingroup's Ambitious Expansion into Indian Tourism and Entertainment

Vietnam-based conglomerate Vingroup is significantly broadening its investment portfolio in India, moving beyond its established ventures in electric mobility solutions, smart urban development, and renewable energy. The company is now setting its sights on the tourism and entertainment sectors, with concrete plans to establish amusement parks and luxury resorts across the country.

Tamil Nadu Emerges as a Key Destination for Vingroup's New Ventures

In a strategic move, Vingroup is actively exploring multiple locations within Tamil Nadu for these new projects. This development follows closely on the heels of VinFast, Vingroup's electric vehicle subsidiary, inaugurating its first overseas manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu, just a year ago. The state continues to be a focal point for the conglomerate's growing Indian operations.

Formalizing Partnerships and Investment Commitments

On Monday, during the prestigious Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026 held at Mamallapuram near Chennai, a significant milestone was achieved. Pham Sanh Chau, the CEO of VinFast Asia, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government's dedicated nodal agency for investment promotion. "We are holding discussions," Chau confirmed to reporters on the sidelines of the summit, highlighting the ongoing nature of these strategic talks.

Vingroup's entertainment and hospitality arm, Vinpearl, brings considerable expertise to this expansion. Currently, Vinpearl operates an impressive portfolio of 47 facilities across Vietnam, including 35 hotels and resorts, four large-scale amusement parks, two animal safaris, four golf courses, and two premium food and beverage service centres. "We also have a golf course in Australia," Chau added, underscoring the brand's international experience.

Substantial Investment and Location Scouting Underway

According to sources within the state's industries department, two of Vingroup's key brands—Vinpearl and VinWonders, its dedicated entertainment brand—are evaluating two or three potential sites in Tamil Nadu. Thoothukudi is reportedly among the locations being seriously considered for these new developments.

A senior state government official revealed that the combined investment from these two companies for establishing the amusement parks and resorts is expected to exceed ₹1,000 crore. This marks a substantial commitment to the region's tourism infrastructure and economic growth.

Part of a Broader Indian Investment Strategy

This latest initiative in Tamil Nadu is part of Vingroup's rapidly expanding footprint across India. Just two months prior, the conglomerate signed another major MoU with the Telangana government, outlining a proposed investment of $3 billion. That agreement spans a diverse range of sectors including smart urban development, electric mobility solutions, healthcare, education, tourism, renewable energy, and charging infrastructure.

Vingroup's multifaceted approach demonstrates a long-term, holistic strategy for the Indian market, combining industrial manufacturing with lifestyle and tourism development to create a comprehensive presence in the country's growing economy.
