PNG Supply Pact Inked for Varanasi Railway Colonies

In a significant development aimed at modernizing amenities and promoting green energy, the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Division of East Central Railway has entered into a formal agreement with GAIL Gas Ltd. The pact, signed on Wednesday, focuses on the provision of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections across railway colonies in Varanasi.

Extensive Coverage and Key Benefits

Under this newly established scheme, PNG supply is set to commence in approximately 4000 railway residences located within Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar. This initiative will not be limited to residential quarters alone; the facility will also be extended to all running rooms used by railway staff. Furthermore, vendors operating at the DDU Junction and the associated railway workshop will gain access to this service, which is expected to significantly enhance operational convenience, safety, and overall efficiency.

The agreement was formally executed in the presence of key officials, including Divisional Railway Manager Uday Singh Meena, Senior Divisional Engineer-Coordination Suraj Kumar, Divisional Engineer-Headquarters Ajay Kumar, and DGM/Officer-in-Charge of GAIL, Randheer Kumar Mishra.

Promoting Modern and Eco-Friendly Infrastructure

Officials have highlighted that this move represents a crucial step forward in upgrading the infrastructure of railway colonies by introducing contemporary amenities. A primary objective is to encourage the adoption of environmentally sustainable energy sources. PNG connections are touted to offer multiple advantages over traditional fuels:

  • Uninterrupted Supply: Ensures a consistent and reliable source of cooking gas.
  • Enhanced Safety: Reduces risks associated with conventional gas cylinders.
  • Economic Efficiency: Proves to be more cost-effective in the long run.
  • Environmental Benefits: Contributes to lower carbon emissions and a cleaner environment.

In a notable benefit for railway employees, no registration fee will be levied for obtaining PNG connections, making the transition more accessible. The project is scheduled to roll out in phases, with the first phase anticipated to become operational by the second week of June, marking a timely implementation of this progressive initiative.
