The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to an amendment of the state's Semiconductor Policy-2024. This move is aimed at refining and adapting the policy to meet the specific requirements under the India Semiconductor Mission. According to officials, the amendment is designed to provide investors with greater flexibility, thereby accelerating the establishment of semiconductor units in the state.
Boosting Domestic Semiconductor Ecosystem
An official stated that the amendment will expedite the setting up of semiconductor manufacturing facilities, supporting India's broader efforts to build a robust domestic semiconductor ecosystem. This initiative is expected to reduce the country's dependence on imports of critical electronic components, a key strategic objective for the government.
Alignment with Central Mission
A government spokesperson explained that the changes are intended to offer comprehensive policy support to investors, ensuring that the state's framework is fully aligned with the Centre's India Semiconductor Mission. This alignment is crucial for attracting investment and fostering innovation in the semiconductor sector.
Policy Duration and Financial Impact
The Semiconductor Policy-2024 was officially notified on January 19, 2024, and will remain in force for a period of five years. Officials have clarified that the approved amendments will not impose any additional financial burden on the state exchequer, ensuring fiscal prudence while promoting industrial growth.
