Surat Dyeing Mill Tragedy Claims Three Lives in Toxic Tank Incident

In a devastating industrial accident, three young workers lost their lives from suspected asphyxiation while another remains in critical condition after entering a water tank for cleaning at New Paras Dyeing Mill in Surat's Pandesara area. The tragic incident occurred late on Thursday night, highlighting the grave dangers faced by workers in confined space operations.

Chain of Events Leading to Tragedy

According to police reports, the sequence of events began when one worker initially entered the industrial water tank to clean accumulated waste material. When he began experiencing dizziness and lost consciousness inside the confined space, three fellow workers immediately jumped inside the tank in a desperate rescue attempt. Tragically, all four workers were overcome by toxic fumes that had accumulated within the enclosed environment.

The maintenance staff at the dyeing mill rushed to the location after learning about the emergency situation. With considerable effort, they managed to extract all four workers from the hazardous tank. The victims were immediately transported to a private hospital in Dindoli for emergency medical treatment, but three could not be revived despite medical intervention.

Victims Identified and Hospitalization Details

The deceased workers have been identified as Dipukumar Paswan (also known as Ankit, aged 19), Sandipkumar Paswan (23), and Sonu Kamlesh Paswan (23). All three young men were residents of the Ganeshnagar area in Pandesara. The fourth worker, Mahendra Paswan, remains hospitalized in serious condition, fighting for his life following the toxic exposure incident.

Medical authorities confirmed that Sonu Paswan succumbed to his injuries late on Thursday night, while Dipukumar and Sandipkumar Paswan passed away on Friday despite receiving intensive medical care at the private hospital facility.

Industrial Cleaning Operation Details

Police investigation revealed that all four workers had been hired externally specifically for the tank cleaning assignment at the mill located within the Pandesara GIDC industrial area. The standard cleaning procedure involved first pumping water out of the industrial tank using an electric motor system. Workers then took turns entering the emptied tank to perform cleaning operations on the accumulated waste material.

During this cleaning process, toxic gas is suspected to have accumulated within the confined space of the tank, creating a lethal environment that caused the workers to experience dizziness followed by loss of consciousness. The exact nature and source of the toxic fumes remain under investigation by multiple authorities.

Official Response and Ongoing Investigation

Pandesara police inspector JR Chaudhary confirmed that an accidental death case has been formally registered in connection with the tragic incident. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the precise circumstances and contributing factors that led to the multiple fatalities.

Investigators are currently awaiting crucial technical reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). These scientific analyses are expected to provide definitive information about the exact chemical composition of the toxic gases involved and identify potential safety violations or procedural failures that may have contributed to this preventable tragedy.

The incident has raised serious questions about industrial safety protocols, particularly regarding confined space operations and hazardous material handling procedures in manufacturing facilities across the region.
