Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma Meets Honda CEO to Launch Rs 1200 Crore EV Production

In a significant development for Rajasthan's industrial sector, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma held a pivotal meeting with Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, on Saturday. The discussions, conducted at the Chief Minister's Office, focused on Honda's strategic expansion into the electric vehicle (EV) market within the state, marking a major step towards green mobility and economic growth.

Honda 0 Alpha EV Model to Begin Production at Tapukara Plant

The centerpiece of this initiative is the production of Honda's first electric vehicle model, the Honda 0 Alpha, which is scheduled to commence manufacturing at the company's Tapukara plant later this year. This project involves a substantial investment of Rs 1200 crore, aligning with Rajasthan's broader industrial objectives and the national 'Make in India for the World' campaign championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chief Minister Sharma emphasized that this move is intended to provide new momentum to the state's industrial landscape. "In line with the resolve of the successful Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji's 'Make in India for the World,' the unveiling of Honda's first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, was done today in a meeting with the delegation of Honda Cars India Limited at the Chief Minister's Office," Sharma stated on social media platform X.

Strategic Invitation and Economic Impact

The groundwork for this collaboration was laid during the preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit. "As part of the preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, during the Japan visit in September 2024, we had invited Honda Cars India Limited to manufacture and invest in EV models in Rajasthan. I am extremely delighted to share that the production of Honda's first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, is set to begin at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan with an investment of Rs 1200 crore," the Chief Minister elaborated.

This initiative is expected to have a profound economic impact, including:

  • Creation of new employment opportunities for the youth of Rajasthan.
  • Enhancement of the state's industrial development through localized manufacturing.
  • Support for the transition towards sustainable and green mobility solutions.

Sharma highlighted that the Tapukara plant will serve as the central hub for this new production line, reinforcing the state's commitment to innovative and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices. "This is a heartening outcome of the visionary policies of this double-engine government, such as #MakeInIndia and #RisingRajasthan. Along with giving a new momentum to industrial development in the state, it will also create new employment opportunities for the youth of the state," he added.

The announcement underscores Rajasthan's proactive approach in attracting global investments and fostering industrial growth, positioning the state as a key player in India's evolving electric vehicle sector.
