Patna Metro Project Accelerates with Trial Runs and Construction Milestones
The Patna Metro project is making significant strides, with trial runs successfully completed on the Bhootnath-Malahi Pakri stretch. Construction activities have intensified on the elevated corridor from Khemnichak to Mithapur, where the installation of pier girders is currently in progress at the Mithapur Metro station site.
Rapid Progress on Elevated Corridor Infrastructure
Officials from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRC) have confirmed that the girders are being assembled to create a continuous deck. Following this crucial phase, the project will proceed with the installation of metro tracks, sleepers, electrical systems, signaling infrastructure, and safety barriers. This elevated corridor is designed to connect key stations including Jaganpura, Ramkrishna Nagar, and Mithapur, promising substantial benefits for students and daily commuters across the city.
Archana Khushi, spokesperson for PMRC, stated: "Construction is progressing rapidly across most sections of the project, with work at Malahi Pakri being prioritized. We are currently awaiting the no-objection certificate (NOC) from the fire department. At the Mithapur Metro station site, girders are being installed on the piers and connected to form a continuous deck."
Engineering Challenges and Strategic Connectivity
The structure near Mithapur was completed earlier, and now a long elevated track is being constructed by joining segments. Once this is accomplished, metro tracks, sleepers, and power lines will be installed. Additionally, signaling systems and safety barriers will be put in place. Officials noted that sharp curves at several points along the route present significant engineering challenges, making the work particularly complex.
Upon completion, this corridor will enable direct travel from Khemnichak to key stations such as Jaganpura, Ramkrishna Nagar, and Mithapur, allowing passengers to board and alight conveniently at these points. The Mithapur Metro Station is expected to become a lifeline for the city's emerging education hub, which hosts more than half a dozen colleges including NIFT, Aryabhatt Knowledge University, Chandragupta Institute of Management and Planning (CIMP), and Chanakya Law University.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities and Underground Expansion
Passengers will benefit from facilities such as banks, ATMs, and other civic amenities near Mithapur Metro Station. Beyond Mithapur, the metro route will transition underground, providing connectivity to Patna Junction. After receiving the NOC from the Railways, a tunnel will be constructed beneath Rajendra Nagar Terminal. This tunnel will run from Moinul Haq Stadium through Rajendra Nagar to Malahi Pakri, with a target completion date of May for the 6km tunnel from Moinul Haq Stadium to Patna Junction.
Currently, around 1km of tunnel excavation between PMCH and Gandhi Maidan remains pending. Tunnel construction is actively underway beyond Akashwani station. Simultaneously, work on the elevated corridor from Danapur to Patliputra Junction is progressing. Utility shifting work from Patliputra Junction to Patna Junction is set to commence soon, further advancing the comprehensive development of Patna's metro network.
