New Mangalore Port Maintains Steady Fuel Inflow Despite Geopolitical Tensions

In the midst of significant disruptions triggered by the ongoing West Asia crisis, New Mangalore Port is poised for a consistent and steady inflow of crude oil and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessels throughout this week. This development offers a crucial respite to fuel supply chains that have been strained by geopolitical tensions in the region.

Russian Tanker Completes Crude Operations

The Russian tanker Aqua Titan, which was chartered by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), successfully completed its crude oil operations on Sunday. This vessel originally set sail from Primorsk with a destination of Rizhao but altered its course mid-journey in Southeast Asia to dock at New Mangalore Port. At MRPL's Single Mooring Point, it unloaded an impressive 96,099.8 tonnes of crude oil, marking a significant delivery amidst global uncertainties.

Multiple Consignments Scheduled for Arrival

According to sources from the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), MRPL is set to receive several key consignments in the coming days. The schedule includes:

  • Oasis: Scheduled to deliver 99,900 tonnes of crude oil on Monday.
  • Bourbon: Expected on Tuesday with 20,000 tonnes of Aviation Turbine Fuel (L) (ATF(L)).
  • Qiu Chi: Also arriving on Tuesday with 35,000 tonnes of Motor Spirit (L) (MS(L)).

This influx is part of a broader effort to stabilize fuel supplies in the region.

LPG Supplies Begin to Arrive

LPG supplies have also commenced their arrival at the port. The Singapore-flagged vessel Pyxis Pioneer berthed on Sunday morning after departing from the Port of Nederland, Texas, on February 14. This carrier is currently unloading 16,714 tonnes of LPG for Aegis Logistics Limited and is scheduled to set sail again on Monday.

Further Fuel Cargoes Lined Up

Additional consignments are already lined up for the near future. The vessel Blage is expected to arrive on Tuesday with 30,600 tonnes of Motor Spirit and High-speed Diesel (HSD) for Nayara Energy. Moreover, another LPG carrier, Apollo Ocean, is slated for arrival on Wednesday with supplies designated for Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, as per NMPA's daily vessel position report.

Port Activity Set to Increase

With multiple vessels scheduled for arrival and departure, port activity at New Mangalore is anticipated to increase significantly over the next few days. A source close to the matter highlighted that this heightened activity provides some much-needed relief to fuel supply chains that have been adversely affected by the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The steady flow of crude oil and LPG vessels underscores the port's resilience and strategic importance in maintaining energy security during turbulent times.
