Nagpur Factory Explosion Death Toll Climbs to 25 After Tragic Loss of Young Woman

The devastating industrial accident at SBL Energy in Raulgaon, located within Katol taluka of Nagpur district, has claimed another life, pushing the total death toll to twenty-five. The latest victim, 22-year-old Jyoti Dhurve, succumbed to severe burn injuries at 9:45 AM on Sunday morning while receiving medical care.

Details of the Fatal Incident and Medical Response

Jyoti Dhurve had sustained approximately 65% burns during the powerful explosion that rocked the factory on March 1st. She was undergoing intensive treatment at the Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) in Nagpur at the time of her passing. The initial blast resulted in the immediate deaths of eighteen workers on-site. Subsequently, seven more individuals, including Jyoti, have died while receiving medical attention, bringing the tragic total to twenty-five fatalities.

In the aftermath of the explosion, a total of nineteen injured women workers were admitted to OCHRI for emergency care. Currently, nine of these women, who are critically injured, remain under treatment at the hospital. Medical teams are working diligently to provide the necessary care and support to these survivors.

Personal Tragedy of Jyoti Dhurve and Her Family

Family sources have revealed the heartbreaking personal story behind this loss. Jyoti Dhurve, originally from Talegaon, had been residing in a rented room in Katol with her 19-year-old brother, Ajay, as both pursued their education. Their parents, Renuka and Shamu, work as manual labourers in Talegaon.

In a selfless act to support her family, Jyoti made the difficult decision to leave college after her first year and join SBL Energy. Her primary motivation was to financially assist her brother's educational aspirations. This sacrifice underscores the profound personal impact of the tragedy, highlighting the human cost beyond the statistics.

The community and authorities are now grappling with the aftermath of this severe industrial disaster, which has left multiple families in mourning and raised urgent questions about workplace safety standards. Investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing as efforts continue to support the injured and the bereaved families.
