Mini India has made a spectacular entry into the open-top car segment, with the initial allocation of the new MINI Convertible being completely sold out within just one day of its official launch in the country. The car, launched on December 12, 2025, witnessed overwhelming demand, compelling the company to swiftly open bookings for the next lot. Deliveries for this highly sought-after convertible are expected to commence in early 2026.
What Makes the MINI Convertible Special?
Brought to India as a fully built unit (CBU), the MINI Convertible carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 58.5 lakh. Based on the Cooper S hatchback, it shares the same powertrain and dynamic DNA but adds a distinct layer of fun with its signature electrically operated soft-top roof. This roof can be opened or closed in a mere 18 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 30 kilometres per hour.
In terms of design, the Convertible sports the brand's iconic circular LED headlamps with circular daytime running lights (DRLs), flanking an octagonal grille. The rear features unique oblong LED tail-lamps with Union Jack signatures, setting it apart from the hatchback. It rides on 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, with black cladding adding a rugged contrast.
Lavish Interiors and Potent Performance
Step inside, and you are greeted by a minimalist, dual-tone cabin featuring sustainable materials. The centrepiece is a 9.4-inch Android-based OLED display that serves as both the infotainment hub and the digital instrument cluster. The car is generously equipped with features like:
- A Head-Up Display (HUD)
- Powered front seats
- A premium Harman Kardon audio system
- Automatic climate control
- Wireless charging and ambient lighting
Under the bonnet, the Cooper Convertible houses the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as the Cooper S hatchback. This powerplant generates 204 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, channeled through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This setup enables the convertible to sprint from 0 to 100 kph in a brisk 6.9 seconds.
Overwhelming Market Response and Official Statement
The immediate sell-out of the first batch underscores the strong appetite for premium, lifestyle-oriented vehicles in the Indian market. Expressing his delight at the phenomenal response, Mr. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, said, "That was quick! The speed at which the all-new MINI Convertible sold underscores how strongly our community resonates with irresistible design and a genuinely fun, authentic driving experience."
He added, "We anticipated excitement, but this immediate embrace of the MINI lifestyle has been extraordinary. MINI owners don't follow trends, they carve their own path, top down. We can't wait to see this iconic MINI adding a burst of energy to streets across India." The company is now accepting bookings for the next allocation, marking a successful chapter for the iconic British brand in the Indian luxury car space.
