A tragic industrial accident in Rajkot district claimed the life of a migrant worker on Friday. The incident occurred at an engineering unit near Bharudi village on National Highway 27 in Gondal taluka.

Details of the Accident

The deceased, identified as Omkarpal, was run over by a crane while assisting in shifting iron rods. According to the police complaint, the crane was being operated recklessly. Omkarpal lost his balance and fell, and the front tyre of the crane crushed his legs and abdomen, leading to fatal injuries.

Omkarpal was working alongside his uncle, Hariprasad Gadariya, who later lodged a complaint at Gondal taluka police station. Both are natives of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh.

Sequence of Events

The accident took place around 1:30 pm after the workers had returned from lunch. Omkarpal was walking alongside the moving crane while holding the load to keep it balanced. During this process, he lost his footing and fell, resulting in the crane running over him.

He was immediately rushed to Gondal government hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Legal Action

Police have registered a case against the crane driver under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 177 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the safety protocols at the engineering unit.
