Mahindra Launches XEV 9S Electric SUV in India with Significant Waiting Periods
Mahindra & Mahindra has officially introduced the all-electric Mahindra XEV 9S SUV to the Indian automotive market, marking a significant step in the country's electric vehicle revolution. The launch took place in November 2025, with ex-showroom prices commencing from Rs 19.95 lakh. Bookings for this highly anticipated model opened on January 14, 2026, followed by the commencement of customer deliveries starting from January 23, 2026.
High Demand Leads to Extended Waiting Periods
Similar to many popular Mahindra models, the XEV 9S is already experiencing substantial demand, resulting in a notably long waiting period for prospective buyers. According to insights from dealer sources, the electric SUV currently faces a maximum waiting period of up to nine months, depending on the specific variant and configuration selected by the customer.
Variant-Specific Waiting Period Details
The Mahindra XEV 9S is available in four distinct trims: Pack One Above, Pack Two Above, Pack Three, and Pack Three Above. Each trim is paired with one of three battery options, influencing both performance and delivery timelines. The waiting periods vary significantly across these variants:
- Three B79 and Three Above B79 trims: Approximately 3–4 months.
- Two Above B79 and Two Above B70 variants: Around 4–5 months.
- One Above B79 trim: Extends to 6–7 months.
- One Above B59 variant: The longest wait, reaching up to 8–9 months.
It is important to note that these waiting periods are indicative estimates and may fluctuate based on factors such as geographic location, preferred colour choices, and individual dealer allocation policies. Customers are advised to contact their nearest authorized Mahindra dealership for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding delivery schedules.
Performance and Battery Specifications
The new Mahindra XEV 9S offers three battery pack options to cater to diverse driving needs: a 59 kWh, a 70 kWh, and a top-tier 79 kWh unit. All variants share a consistent torque output of 380Nm, but their power ratings differ according to the battery size:
- 59 kWh model: Generates 231 horsepower.
- 70 kWh option: Steps up to 245 horsepower.
- 79 kWh version: Delivers 286 horsepower, making it the most powerful configuration in the lineup.
The electric motor is positioned at the rear of the vehicle, driving only the rear wheels, which enhances handling and performance dynamics.
Charging Infrastructure and Options
Mahindra provides two home-charging solutions for the XEV 9S to ensure convenient recharging for owners. A standard 7.2kW AC charging unit is available, priced at Rs 50,000, while a faster 11.2kW charger can be purchased separately for Rs 75,000. Charging times vary based on the setup:
- Using the 7.2kW charger, the largest 79 kWh battery requires approximately 11.7 hours for a full charge.
- The 11.2kW unit significantly reduces this time to about eight hours for a complete charge.
Additionally, the XEV 9S supports 180kW DC fast charging, enabling the 79 kWh battery pack to recharge from 20% to 80% in just around 20 minutes, ideal for long-distance travel and quick top-ups.
Feature-Rich Interior and Advanced Technology
The Mahindra XEV 9S boasts an impressive array of features designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and entertainment for all occupants. Key highlights include:
- Triple 12.3-inch displays: a central touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a dedicated screen for the front passenger.
