Mahindra XEV 9S: 7-Seat Electric SUV Launched

Mahindra & Mahindra has accelerated its electric vehicle ambitions with the launch of a significant new model. The automaker has introduced the XEV 9S, marking it as India's first mass-market, three-row electric SUV. This seven-seater is positioned as a spacious alternative to the XEV 9E and is designed specifically for Indian families seeking a practical, zero-emissions vehicle without compromise.

Design and Space: Built for the Indian Family

At first glance, the XEV 9S carries a familiar Mahindra design language that will reassure buyers transitioning from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It shares its electric architecture with the 9E but adopts a more upright and conventional SUV stance, reminiscent of the popular XUV700. The front is dominated by a signature LED DRL light bar and a closed grille that affirms its electric identity.

The interior is where the XEV 9S truly makes its case. As a dedicated seven-seater, smart packaging was crucial. With the third row folded, the boot offers a substantial over 520 litres of space. A notable addition is the front trunk, or 'frunk', providing around 150 litres of storage for charging cables or small bags, a boon when all seats are occupied.

Technology, Comfort, and Performance Specs

Mahindra has loaded the XEV 9S with premium features. The cabin is centered around a triple-screen setup, featuring three 12.3-inch displays across the dashboard as standard. A panoramic Skyroof, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, and ventilated seats across the first two rows enhance comfort.

Underpinned by Mahindra's INGLO electric platform, the SUV offers three battery options: 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh. The top variant produces 280 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Its most compelling claim is a range of up to 679 km on a full charge. Supporting 180 kW DC fast charging, the battery can go from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes.

Safety and Mahindra's Electric Racing Pedigree

Safety is a key pillar, with the XEV 9S equipped with a comprehensive Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera.

Mahindra connects this road car technology directly to its racing expertise. The company highlighted its 'Scream Electric' philosophy, emphasizing the transfer of knowledge from its Formula E racing program, where it has competed since 2014. The brand also unveiled its next-generation Formula E car, set to race from the 2025–26 season, proudly flying the Indian flag as the championship's sole Indian team.

Priced from Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra XEV 9S presents a compelling package. It directly addresses the gap for a spacious, long-range, family-friendly electric SUV in the Indian market, combining practicality, advanced technology, and performance derived from the racetrack.
