Mahindra Thar Receives Price Hike: Most Variants Now Cost Rs 20,000 More

In a recent development, Mahindra & Mahindra has implemented a price increase for its popular lifestyle SUV, the Mahindra Thar. The revised pricing structure sees most variants of the vehicle becoming more expensive by Rs 20,000, with the new rates taking effect immediately across the Indian market.

Details of the Price Adjustment

The entry-level AX T 2WD variant remains unaffected by this price revision, continuing to be priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, all other trim levels of the Thar have received the Rs 20,000 increase, making the SUV slightly more expensive for prospective buyers considering higher-spec models.

Refreshed Thar: Recent Updates and Features

Mahindra launched the facelifted version of the Thar just a few months ago, introducing several significant upgrades to both its exterior and interior. The updated SUV now sports a body-coloured grille, a dual-tone front bumper, and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels that enhance its rugged appeal.

At the rear, practical improvements include a parking camera integrated into the spare wheel hub, along with the addition of a rear wiper and washer system for better visibility in adverse weather conditions.

Enhanced Cabin Experience

Inside the cabin, the Thar has undergone a noticeable transformation. The dashboard now features an all-black finish, complemented by a new steering wheel design. Practical upgrades include repositioned power window switches on the doors and individual armrests with built-in storage for both front occupants.

Rear passengers benefit from dedicated AC vents and additional charging ports, significantly improving comfort during longer journeys.

Technology and Safety Upgrades

The updated Thar now comes equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that includes an enhanced off-road display suite. Safety features have been bolstered with the addition of a rear-view camera, working in conjunction with the new rear wiper and washer system.

A particularly convenient change is the redesigned fuel lid, which no longer requires a key for opening. Instead, it can be operated using a dashboard-mounted button, adding to the vehicle's modern convenience features.

Powertrain Options Remain Unchanged

Despite the price increase, the Thar continues to offer the same engine options that have proven popular with buyers. Customers can choose between:

  • A 152 horsepower 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
  • A 119 horsepower 1.5-litre diesel engine
  • A 132 horsepower 2.2-litre diesel engine

Transmission options remain unchanged from the previous model. The 2.0-litre petrol variant continues to offer four-wheel drive as an optional feature, while the larger 2.2-litre diesel engine comes with four-wheel drive as standard equipment.

This price adjustment comes as Mahindra continues to position the Thar as a premium lifestyle SUV in the competitive Indian automotive market, balancing its rugged capabilities with modern comfort and convenience features that appeal to urban adventurers and off-road enthusiasts alike.
