LPG Crisis Apprehensions Trigger Induction Cooktop Buying Frenzy in Punjab
Amid growing apprehensions of a potential liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) crisis, sales of induction cooktops have surged dramatically across markets in Punjab. Retailers in cities like Jalandhar and Phagwara report that demand for these electric cooking appliances has skyrocketed, with daily sales now approaching what was previously achieved over an entire month.
Retailers Witness Unprecedented Demand Spike
Arun Bajaj, proprietor of Jalandhar-based ABC Hotel-ware, confirmed the remarkable shift in consumer behavior. "Earlier, there were very few customers inquiring about induction cooktops," Bajaj stated. "However, from Tuesday onward, we began receiving consistent demand, which transformed into a significant increase by Wednesday."
Bajaj further explained that the sudden surge has created market pressures. "For now, there appears to be a shortage of available units, leading to a noticeable spike in market prices," he added. The increased demand has also extended to compatible kitchenware, with sales of utensils specifically designed for induction cooktops rising in tandem.
Daily Sales Now Match Previous Monthly Figures
Satish Mata, owner of Mata Bartan Store in Phagwara, echoed similar observations, noting a sudden and substantial surge in demand beginning Wednesday. "Previously, we had very few customers for these power-based cooking units," Mata revealed. "Now, the daily demand is almost equivalent to what we could typically sell over an entire month."
This dramatic increase highlights how consumer concerns about potential LPG shortages are rapidly altering purchasing patterns in the region. The shift toward induction cooktops represents a move toward more reliable, electricity-dependent cooking solutions amid uncertainty surrounding traditional gas supplies.
Market Dynamics and Future Outlook
The current market scenario indicates that retailers are struggling to keep pace with the unexpected demand. The combination of limited stock and heightened consumer interest has created a seller's market, with prices experiencing upward pressure.
