Karnataka Government Offers Land for Pioneering Infrastructure Testing Facility
The Karnataka Government has formally offered 105 acres of land to the Central Government for establishing India's inaugural dedicated construction and infrastructure equipment testing facility. The Centre had specifically requested land allocation for the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to develop this facility, with an estimated project cost of Rs 500 crore. In response, Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil confirmed that the state government has identified a suitable location at Basaralu, approximately 30 kilometers from Mandya.
"While the Centre requested 100 acres, the State Government is ready to allocate 105 acres," Minister Patil stated on Tuesday, highlighting the state's proactive approach to supporting this national infrastructure project.
Site Details and Inspection Process
The proposed site spans across Muddanaghatta and Heggadathihalli villages within Basaralu Hobli of Mandya taluk. According to official correspondence, the location is strategically positioned about 500 meters from the Mandya-Nagamangala state highway, ensuring excellent connectivity for transportation and logistics.
Minister Patil further revealed that a central team and ARAI representatives have been invited to conduct a comprehensive joint site inspection at the offered location. This collaborative assessment will evaluate the land's suitability for the sophisticated testing infrastructure required for construction equipment validation.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy, who represents the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, has championed this project as a significant contribution to his home region. The minister had previously written to the state government seeking 100 acres for the ARAI facility, to which Karnataka responded positively with the enhanced land offer of 105 acres.
