India Builds More Railway Coaches Than US, Europe: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant announcement on Saturday. He declared that India now manufactures more railway coaches than the United States and Europe combined. The Prime Minister shared this news while flagging off India's inaugural Vande Bharat sleeper train from Malda in West Bengal.

Boosting Economy and Creating Jobs

Addressing a large public gathering after the inauguration, PM Modi emphasized the economic impact of this achievement. He stated that India's expanding railway manufacturing capacity directly strengthens the national economy. It also generates substantial employment opportunities across the country.

"Today, India is manufacturing more locomotives than America and Europe," the Prime Minister said confidently. "We are now exporting passenger and metro train coaches to numerous countries. This activity strengthens our economy and creates jobs. Connecting India remains our top priority, and reducing travel distances is our core mission."

A Shift from Importing Dreams to Exporting Reality

PM Modi reflected on India's journey in railway development. He recalled a time when citizens would watch videos of foreign trains with envy. People wondered if India could ever possess such advanced facilities.

"Today, we are living that reality," he proclaimed. "Now, foreigners make videos of Indian Railways. They tell the world about the remarkable revolution happening right here in our country."

The Prime Minister stressed that India is not merely modernizing its transport infrastructure. The nation is achieving true self-reliance in the process.

Cultural Connection and National Expansion

Highlighting the cultural significance of the new service, PM Modi connected it to India's spiritual heritage. "Vande Bharat is proudly Made in India," he said. "This train will connect the sacred land of Maa Kali to Maa Kamakhya. Indian Railways is undergoing a major phase of modernization."

He announced that Vande Bharat sleeper trains would soon operate across the entire country. This expansion aims to make long-distance travel significantly more comfortable for all citizens.

"From today, Vande Bharat Sleeper Class trains begin their journey from this pious land of West Bengal," Modi stated. "They will make people's journeys memorable, comfortable, and truly magnificent." He added that these new train projects would particularly empower the nation's youth.

A Milestone in Railway Modernization

The launch of the Vande Bharat sleeper train marks a crucial milestone. It represents a key part of Indian Railways' ongoing modernization drive. This initiative specifically aims to improve connectivity between eastern India and the Northeast region.

The new Howrah–Guwahati service is expected to drastically reduce travel time. It will also offer passengers modern onboard amenities for a superior travel experience.

Major Infrastructure Investments

During his visit to Malda, PM Modi interacted warmly with students, railway staff, and train drivers. These individuals were present for the historic inaugural run of the sleeper train.

The Prime Minister is set to dedicate several major projects to the nation. He will also lay the foundation stone for multiple new initiatives. The total value of these rail and road infrastructure projects exceeds Rs 3,250 crore. This substantial investment aims to boost connectivity and spur development in West Bengal and the North-Eastern region.

Railway Minister's Announcement

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described these initiatives as a special "gift" to West Bengal. He provided specific details about the new developments.

"PM Modi is giving West Bengal a gift of more than one dozen new trains," Vaishnaw announced. "The first service of Vande Bharat sleeper trains will commence from Guwahati to Kolkata. PM Modi himself will inaugurate this service. Additionally, Amrit Bharat Express trains are scheduled to begin operations."

The Railway Minister revealed an extensive station redevelopment plan. "Along with new trains, 101 stations are being reconstructed across West Bengal," he said. "As part of this project, the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station is transforming into a world-class facility. The station will receive two new platforms to enhance its capacity and services."

Prime Minister's Schedule in Assam

After concluding his engagements in West Bengal, PM Modi will travel to Assam. His schedule there includes participation in cultural events. These events will celebrate the rich heritage of the Bodo community.

The Prime Minister will also perform the bhoomi pujan ceremony. This ritual will mark the beginning of construction for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project. This major highway initiative has a dual focus. It aims to improve regional connectivity while ensuring environmental protection. The design specifically facilitates safe wildlife movement in the ecologically sensitive area.
