Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Inaugurates Major Bulk Drug Park and Working Women's Hostel in Una District
In a significant development for the state's industrial landscape, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone on Saturday for the site development and infrastructure works of the ambitious Bulk Drug Park at Polian in Una district. This high-profile event marks a pivotal step towards enhancing the region's economic prospects and pharmaceutical capabilities.
Dual Infrastructure Projects to Boost Employment and Support Women Workers
Simultaneously, Chief Minister Sukhu inaugurated the foundation stone for a modern working women's hostel at Panjuana. This facility, constructed with an investment of Rs 8.28 crore, is designed to accommodate 50 women employed in nearby industrial areas, providing them with safe and convenient housing options. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to supporting female workforce participation in the industrial sector.
Bulk Drug Park: A Transformative Rs 2,071 Crore Pharma Hub Project
The Bulk Drug Park is an extensive project sprawling across 1,405 acres with a total financial outlay of Rs 2,071 crore. It receives substantial support from the central government, which has contributed approximately Rs 996 crore towards its development. Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that this project will significantly elevate Himachal Pradesh's status as a major pharmaceutical hub, while generating large-scale employment opportunities for the local population.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri described the Bulk Drug Park as a transformative initiative for the regional economy. He highlighted critical water infrastructure works valued at Rs 68.49 crore, which are essential for the park's operational efficiency and sustainability.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan provided updates on the ongoing progress, noting that power and site development works are advancing steadily. The park is projected to attract substantial investments ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 crore and create up to 20,000 jobs. Furthermore, it aims to promote self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector by reducing dependency on Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) imports.
Environmental Compliance and Development Progress
In line with environmental regulations, the project has so far involved the felling of 1,109 trees, carried out strictly in accordance with approved statutory and environmental clearances. Formation cutting works are currently in progress over approximately 16 hectares (equivalent to 213 bighas), while tree-felling operations are underway across nearly 50 hectares (about 500 bighas) to facilitate further developmental activities.
This comprehensive approach ensures that industrial growth is balanced with environmental stewardship, setting a precedent for sustainable development in the region.
