Goa Chamber of Commerce Launches MSME Aadhar Stambh to Strengthen Local Industry
In a significant move to bolster the state's economic backbone, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has unveiled the MSME Aadhar Stambh initiative. This dedicated development cell is designed to tackle the persistent challenges faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Goa, which are crucial for job generation, supporting local supply chains, and contributing substantially to the state's economy.
Addressing Core Challenges in MSME Sector
Speaking at the launch event, GCCI President Pratima Dhond highlighted the multifaceted obstacles that manufacturing units and other MSMEs encounter. These include limited access to finance, the need for technology upgradation, complex compliance requirements, and inadequate market linkages. Dhond emphasized that these issues often hinder the growth and competitiveness of businesses that form the foundation of Goa's industrial landscape.
"Despite their vital role, MSMEs in Goa grapple with outdated technology, a shortage of skilled manpower, and other barriers that stifle their potential," said industrialist Manguirish Pai Raiker, who is leading the new initiative. Raiker pointed out that these enterprises, while being the backbone of the economy, require targeted support to thrive in a competitive environment.
Comprehensive Support Framework
The MSME Aadhar Stambh cell will implement a robust framework of activities aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs. Key focus areas include:
- Outreach programs with business leaders to foster networking and knowledge sharing.
- Buyer-seller meets to enhance market access and create new business opportunities.
- Technology and innovation awareness campaigns to promote modernization.
- Specialized training sessions to upskill the workforce and address manpower shortages.
- Round-table discussions to facilitate dialogue between stakeholders.
- Promotion of Goa's entrepreneurial ecosystem to attract investment and talent.
Additionally, GCCI has established a dedicated helpdesk to assist entrepreneurs with UDYAM (MSME) registrations. This service is crucial for formalizing enterprises and enabling them to access government benefits, subsidies, and support schemes that can drive growth.
Collaborative Approach for Sustainable Development
Raiker stressed the importance of a collaborative effort involving the government, financial institutions, and industry bodies. Such partnerships are essential to strengthen entrepreneurship and spur industrial development across Goa. By aligning resources and expertise, the initiative aims to create a more conducive environment for MSMEs to flourish.
The overarching goal of the MSME Aadhar Stambh is to fortify Goa's MSME ecosystem by improving access to critical resources. This includes better information flow, enhanced finance options, mentorship programs, and expanded market linkages. Ultimately, these efforts are expected to contribute to sustainable economic growth, increased job creation, and a more resilient local economy.
As Goa continues to navigate industrial challenges, this initiative represents a proactive step towards unlocking the full potential of its MSME sector, ensuring it remains a dynamic and integral part of the state's future prosperity.
