The proposed Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) township at Dhuriyapar is rapidly emerging as a major investment destination after receiving environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests. Spread across 6,876 acres, the industrial township is being developed on the lines of Greater GIDA and is expected to significantly strengthen industrial growth in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Major Investment Projects
Two major investment projects — by Adani Group and Shreyas Distillery-Energy Ltd — have already secured land allotments and are preparing for foundation-laying ceremonies. Officials said the Adani Group has been allotted 46.63 acres for setting up an Ambuja Cements unit with a proposed investment of nearly Rs 1,400 crore. Meanwhile, Shreyas Distillery-Energy Ltd has received 60.48 acres for its proposed distillery and solar energy project.
Upcoming Ceremonies
According to officials, the Adani Group has sought time from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the groundbreaking ceremony of the cement unit, which is likely to take place later this month. Shreyas Distillery is also planning a bhoomi pujan ceremony for its proposed Rs 8,000-crore distillery and solar power venture.
Future Prospects
GIDA CEO Anuj Malik said the township has the potential to become Gorakhpur’s new industrial gateway. Tata Power has shown interest in setting up a large solar plant, while the Reliance Group has proposed a food park project. GIDA is expected to begin allotment of additional industrial plots soon.
