LUDHIANA: Three men, including a father-son duo, died after inhaling toxic gas at a hand tools manufacturing unit on RK Road in Ludhiana in the early hours of Monday. Two other factory workers, who remain unconscious, have been admitted to the hospital.
Victims and Incident
The deceased have been identified as Maan Singh, his son Amit, and factory worker Shri Ram. The incident occurred when the victims opened a sewage filled with effluent to clean it. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja stated, 'Spanners are manufactured in the factory. The effluent is stored in a sewage that needed cleaning. Maan Singh and Amit were called for the job, and three other factory workers were assigned to assist them. As soon as they opened the sewage, they inhaled toxic gas. They collapsed at the spot and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where three were declared dead. The condition of the other two workers is stable.'
Police Action
Teja added that the police are registering a case at Moti Nagar police station. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the gas release and any safety violations.
The tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by workers in industrial settings, particularly when dealing with hazardous materials without adequate safety measures. Local authorities have urged factory owners to ensure proper ventilation and protective gear for employees handling toxic substances.
