Eastern Railway's Sealdah Division Inaugurates Pioneering Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal
In a significant development for regional logistics, the Eastern Railway's Sealdah division officially commissioned its first-ever Gati Shakti multimodal cargo terminal on Tuesday. This state-of-the-art facility is strategically located at Sargachhi station, situated on the Krishnagore-Lalgola section. The primary objective of this new terminal is to streamline the movement and storage of essential food grains across the Murshidabad region, marking a major step forward in supply chain modernization.
Advanced Infrastructure for Food Grain Management
The newly launched terminal is designed with cutting-edge features to handle bulk cargo efficiently. It will primarily serve the Food Corporation of India (FCI) by managing wheat rakes, with a robust capacity to process two to three rakes per month. Each rake is capable of transporting approximately 2,500 tonnes of food grains, ensuring substantial throughput for regional distribution needs.
Key infrastructural highlights include advanced storage systems that provide comprehensive protection against environmental factors and infestation risks. This ensures the preservation of grain quality during transit and storage, addressing critical concerns in food logistics.
Enhancing Supply Chain Efficiency and Food Security
According to an Eastern Railway official, the integration of rail transport with sophisticated storage infrastructure is expected to yield multiple benefits. The terminal aims to drastically improve supply chain efficiency by reducing transit overheads and minimizing delays. This initiative is poised to bolster food security in the Murshidabad region by ensuring a more reliable and timely supply of essential commodities.
The Gati Shakti terminal represents a pivotal move towards multimodal logistics solutions, aligning with broader national efforts to enhance connectivity and economic growth through infrastructure development. By leveraging rail networks for cargo movement, the Sealdah division anticipates significant operational improvements and cost savings, ultimately supporting local agricultural and economic activities.
