A major power outage struck parts of the Chakan MIDC industrial area in Pune on Tuesday evening after a car collided with critical infrastructure at a local substation. The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 PM, causing substantial damage to electrical equipment and poles.

According to officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the vehicle rammed into several poles of the substation, leading to the collapse of two electricity poles and severe damage to power lines. This collision directly impacted the 22 KV Mahalunge switching device and the 22 KV MIDC double circuit feeder, which are essential components for distributing electricity in the region.
The accident initially disrupted a power load of approximately 11 megawatts (MW), affecting supply to around 17 industrial consumers in the area. These businesses faced operational halts due to the sudden loss of electricity, highlighting the vulnerability of industrial zones to such infrastructure failures.
Restoration Efforts and Current Status
MSEDCL teams swiftly responded to the scene, initiating repair works to mitigate the outage. By leveraging alternative supply routes, they managed to restore about 7 MW of the demand load, providing partial relief to some affected units. However, the remaining repairs were projected to take an additional two to three hours to complete fully.
The officials emphasized that while progress has been made, the full restoration of power is contingent on completing the repairs on the damaged poles and feeders.
