Businessman Shot in Shahabad, Critically Injured

A businessman sustained critical bullet injuries after unidentified miscreants opened fire on him in Shahabad town of Kurukshetra district on Sunday evening. The incident took place around 8 pm near Jasmit Singh's Dera, when the victim had gone to answer the call of nature.

Victim Identified

The injured has been identified as Sunil Kumar, also known as Bunty, a resident of Shahabad. He runs a construction company in the area. According to his friend Sanjeev Kumar, who filed the complaint, Sunil was accompanied by him when they reached the spot. Sanjeev started talking to two other individuals, Jagdeep Singh and Rajbir Singh, who were already present there.

Meanwhile, a young man approached them and inquired about Sunil Kumar, claiming he wanted to discuss dumping soil at a site. When Sunil arrived, the suspect pulled out a pistol and fired at him with the intention to kill. Sunil sustained a bullet wound on his thigh and another on his neck.

Escape and Medical Response

After the attack, Jagdeep tried to catch the assailant, but he fled with an accomplice waiting on a two-wheeler. The victim was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Shahabad and later moved to Adesh Hospital. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh later that night, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Police Investigation

Upon receiving information, police officials visited the CHC and inspected the crime scene. Two empty cartridges were recovered from the location. A case has been registered at the Shahabad police station against an unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Shahabad police station SHO Jagdish Chand stated that a case was registered based on the complaint, and five teams from Kurukshetra police are working on the matter. Efforts are underway to trace the suspects, though the exact motive behind the attack remains unknown.
