Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday announced that medical colleges in Bihar would be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, encompassing both greenfield and brownfield projects. He directed officials to curtail unnecessary patient referrals and bolster treatment facilities at the local level.
Review Meeting Directives
Chairing a review meeting of the health department at Sankalp Sabhagar in Lok Sewak Bhavan, the CM emphasized that patients should receive quality treatment at hospitals closer to their homes, minimizing avoidable referrals. He instructed officials to ensure the implementation of this system in all district and sub-divisional hospitals by August 15, assigning district magistrates the responsibility of monitoring compliance.
Health Department Presentation
The directives came during a detailed presentation by health department secretary Kumar Ravi, who briefed the meeting on the department’s organizational structure, service delivery mechanism, the status of medical colleges and hospitals under construction, and future plans for improving healthcare services in the state.
Samrat also urged officials to expedite the construction of ongoing medical colleges and hospitals. He reiterated the government's commitment to expanding medical education and strengthening healthcare infrastructure so that people can access quality treatment within the state itself.
Commitment to Rural Healthcare
The CM stated that accessible, transparent, and high-quality modern healthcare services are being provided to the people, noting that medical facilities in rural areas have improved significantly in recent years. He reaffirmed the government's dedication to ensuring better medical education and treatment facilities across Bihar.
PPP Model for Medical Colleges
The proposed PPP model for medical colleges is expected to support both the establishment of new institutions under greenfield projects and the expansion or modernization of existing facilities under brownfield projects. This initiative is part of the state’s broader efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and medical training capacity.
By leveraging private sector expertise and investment, Bihar aims to accelerate the development of medical infrastructure, ultimately improving healthcare outcomes for its residents. The state government is focused on reducing the burden on tertiary care centers by strengthening primary and secondary healthcare facilities.
