Audi SQ8 Performance SUV Launched in India with Aggressive Pricing
Audi India has officially launched the highly anticipated new Audi SQ8 performance SUV in the Indian market, with prices commencing from Rs 1.78 crore (ex-showroom). This strategic introduction expands Audi's flagship Q8 portfolio, positioning the SQ8 as a compelling middle ground between the comfort-oriented standard Q8 and the high-performance RS Q8 variant.
Booking Details and Market Competition
Pre-bookings for the Audi SQ8 are currently underway, offering interested customers the flexibility to secure their vehicle either online or by visiting their nearest Audi dealership. The booking amount has been set at Rs 5 lakh, with deliveries expected to commence shortly. In the competitive luxury SUV segment, the SQ8 will directly rival models such as the Mercedes-AMG GLE coupe, BMW X5 M60i, Porsche Cayenne, and Maserati Grecale, intensifying the battle for supremacy in this premium category.
Design and Styling Enhancements
The Audi SQ8 builds upon the distinctive coupe-SUV silhouette of the standard Q8, incorporating several sport-oriented design elements to emphasize its performance credentials. At the front, it features a prominent single-frame grille with a honeycomb pattern and darkened accents, flanked by LED headlamps with unique daytime running light signatures. The revised bumper includes larger air intakes and sharper detailing for an aggressive stance.
From the side, the SUV retains the sloping roofline and wide posture of the Q8, riding on large S-specific alloy wheels with SQ8 badging on the front fenders. A strong shoulder line connects the front and rear, with select variants offering dark exterior trim on mirror caps and window surrounds. The rear design is highlighted by a full-width LED light bar, a contoured tailgate, a diffuser-style bumper element, and quad exhaust outlets—two on each side—serving as key visual identifiers. A roof-mounted spoiler completes the sporty aesthetic.
Interior Features and Safety Technology
Inside, the Audi SQ8 is equipped with a host of premium features, including twin 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, a B&O music system, and a steering wheel with S-line badging. The cabin also boasts S-spec graphics in the instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and powered front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
Safety is a top priority, with the SQ8 offering multiple airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, park assist, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Additionally, the model is expected to include advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking, enhancing both convenience and protection.
Powertrain and Performance Specifications
Under the hood, the Audi SQ8 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, shared with the range-topping RS Q8 but in a lower state of tune. In the SQ8, this engine delivers an impressive 507 horsepower and 770 Newton-meters of torque, compared to the 640 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters in the RS Q8. In contrast, the standard Q8 utilizes a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 340 horsepower and 500 Newton-meters.
The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that channels power to all four wheels, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in a claimed 4.1 seconds. This performance capability underscores the SQ8's role as a versatile model that combines daily usability with exhilarating driving dynamics, effectively bridging the gap between luxury comfort and raw power in Audi's SUV lineup.
