Ahmedabad Airport Initiates Large-Scale Tree Transplantation for Expansion Project
Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) has commenced a significant tree transplantation drive as the first visible step in its major infrastructure overhaul. This initiative is part of the proposed New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) project, aimed at enhancing airport capacity and modernizing facilities.
Details of the Transplantation Drive
Over 200 trees have been identified for relocation to facilitate the expansion. In the initial phase, approximately 200 trees located near the old cargo complex are currently undergoing pruning and conditioning. These trees will be scientifically uprooted and replanted near Terminal 2, with the exact location being finalized in coordination with relevant authorities.
Airport officials emphasize that the transplantation is being conducted in a planned and scientific manner to maximize the survival rate of the relocated trees. The trees will be shifted to a designated site behind the Terminal 2 parking area, following necessary permissions obtained from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's parks and gardens department.

Pre-transplantation activities include branch pruning and canopy reduction to minimize stress during the relocation process.
