Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked by Rs 99, Domestic Rates Unchanged
Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked by Rs 99

In a recent development, the price of commercial LPG cylinders has been increased by Rs 99, effective from May 1, 2026. This hike applies to 19 kg commercial cylinders used in hotels, restaurants, and other businesses. However, there is no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, which remain at the existing rate for household consumers.

Price Details

The revised price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi is now Rs 1,812.50, up from Rs 1,713.50. The price varies slightly across different cities due to local taxes and transportation costs. In Mumbai, the new price is Rs 1,775, while in Kolkata, it is Rs 1,792.50. Chennai consumers will pay Rs 1,830 for a commercial cylinder.

Domestic Cylinder Rates Unchanged

The price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged at Rs 803 in Delhi. This decision provides relief to households that were concerned about potential increases. The government has not provided any specific reason for the differential pricing, but it is believed to be aimed at controlling inflation and easing the burden on common citizens.

Impact on Businesses

The hike in commercial LPG prices is expected to increase operational costs for small businesses, especially eateries and dhabas. Many businesses rely on LPG for cooking, and the price rise may lead to a slight increase in menu prices. However, larger commercial establishments may absorb the cost to maintain customer loyalty.

Reasons Behind the Hike

The price revision is attributed to fluctuations in international crude oil prices and the exchange rate. Oil marketing companies revise LPG prices monthly based on these factors. The last revision in commercial LPG prices was in April, when rates were reduced by Rs 15.50. The current hike reverses that reduction and adds an additional burden.

Government's Stance

The government has emphasized that domestic LPG prices are being kept stable to protect households from inflationary pressures. Subsidies for domestic LPG continue, though the subsidy amount has been reduced over the years. The government also promotes the use of clean cooking fuel through schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, which provides free connections to below-poverty-line households.

Consumers are advised to check the latest prices from their local distributors or the official website of oil marketing companies. The next revision is expected on June 1, 2026.
