The Centre on Friday assured citizens that there is no fuel supply gap in the country despite the ongoing crisis in West Asia. In a statement, the government urged people not to engage in panic buying, emphasising that the situation is under control and adequate fuel stocks are available.
Government Reassures on Fuel Availability
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified that India's crude oil and petroleum product supplies remain stable. The ministry stated that the country has sufficient reserves to meet demand for several weeks, even in the event of any disruption. It also highlighted that refineries are operating at full capacity and that the supply chain is robust.
Reasons for Stability
Several factors contribute to India's fuel security:
- Diversified Import Sources: India imports crude oil from multiple countries, reducing dependence on any single region.
- Strategic Petroleum Reserves: The country has built strategic storage facilities to cushion against supply shocks.
- Domestic Production: Domestic oil and gas production supplements imports, providing additional buffer.
Warning Against Panic Buying
The government cautioned that panic buying could create artificial shortages and disrupt the supply chain. Citizens are advised to purchase fuel as per their normal requirements. The ministry assured that any instances of hoarding or overcharging will be dealt with strictly.
Monitoring and Coordination
The Centre is closely monitoring the global oil market and coordinating with state governments and oil companies to ensure seamless supply. Additional measures, such as increasing the supply of alternative fuels like compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, are also being encouraged.
In conclusion, the government reiterates that there is no cause for alarm. Citizens are urged to remain calm and avoid unnecessary hoarding, as the nation's fuel supplies are secure and sufficient.
