NLSIU Students Overnight Protest Over Hostel Conditions

Students at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru staged an overnight protest on the campus, voicing their concerns over deteriorating hostel conditions and crumbling infrastructure. The protest, which began on Wednesday evening and continued into Thursday morning, saw a large number of students gathering near the administrative block, demanding immediate action from the university authorities.

Key Demands of the Protesters

The students presented a list of demands, including urgent repairs to hostel buildings, improvement in sanitation facilities, and better maintenance of common areas. They also highlighted issues such as water leakage, electrical problems, and lack of proper ventilation in rooms. Many students expressed frustration over what they described as years of neglect by the administration.

Infrastructure Concerns

According to student representatives, the infrastructure at NLSIU has been deteriorating for several years. They pointed out that some hostels have visible cracks in walls, broken windows, and faulty wiring, posing safety risks. The protestors also demanded the installation of CCTV cameras in hostels for security and better internet connectivity.

Administration's Response

University officials acknowledged the students' concerns and assured them that the issues would be addressed on a priority basis. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Krishnaswamy met with a delegation of students and promised to form a committee to look into the grievances. He also stated that immediate repairs would be carried out in the most affected areas.

The protest ended peacefully after the administration's assurance, but students have warned of further action if their demands are not met within a stipulated timeline. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the state of student housing in premier institutions across the country.
