The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is making significant progress on its ambitious project to reduce traffic congestion at 100 key junctions across the city. According to sources, work on 37 junctions has been completed, while 12 others are currently under construction. Surveys and design work are underway for the remaining junctions.
Project Overview
Launched a year ago, the project aims to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and minimize waiting times at busy intersections. A key feature is the introduction of 'free left' turns, which have already been implemented at 76 junctions. This allows vehicles to turn left without waiting for a green signal, thereby easing congestion.
Road Safety Enhancements
Officials have emphasized road safety improvements alongside traffic decongestion. Thermoplastic painting has been completed over an area of 1,19,000 square meters, covering center lines, curb lines, zebra crossings, edge lines, and stencil work. Additionally, approximately 6,900 traffic signboards have been installed, including informatory, cautionary, mandatory, and directional boards.
The project is expected to significantly reduce travel times and improve the overall driving experience in Ahmedabad. The AMC continues to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of the remaining junctions.
