Mother Dairy has announced a hike in milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across all variants, effective immediately in the Delhi-NCR region. This decision comes just days after Amul implemented a similar price increase in several states, citing rising input costs.
Revised Milk Prices
The revised prices for Mother Dairy milk variants are as follows:
- Full Cream Milk: Increased from Rs 64 to Rs 66 per litre.
- Toned Milk: Increased from Rs 52 to Rs 54 per litre.
- Double Toned Milk: Increased from Rs 46 to Rs 48 per litre.
- Skimmed Milk: Increased from Rs 44 to Rs 46 per litre.
Reason for Price Hike
Mother Dairy cited an increase in procurement prices and operational costs as the primary reasons for the price revision. The company stated that the hike is necessary to ensure fair returns to milk producers and maintain the quality of milk supplied to consumers.
Impact on Consumers
The price increase is expected to add a monthly burden of approximately Rs 60 for a family consuming three litres of milk daily. Consumers in Delhi-NCR have expressed concerns over the rising cost of essential commodities.
Industry Context
This is the second major milk price hike in a month. Earlier, Amul raised prices by Rs 2 per litre in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and other states. The dairy industry has been facing pressure due to rising feed costs and transportation expenses.
Mother Dairy, a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), is one of the largest milk suppliers in the Delhi-NCR region, serving millions of households daily.
