Madikeri: Work to clear the waste dumped at the waste disposal plant in Bhuvanagiri near Kushalnagar has commenced, with the process being completed by Kushalnagar municipality at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. It will be cleared soon, said Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda during his visit to the Bhuvanagiri waste disposal plant on Wednesday. This will be a big relief for Kushalnagar residents as legacy waste will be disposed of in a scientific way, he stated.
Comprehensive Measures by Municipality
In the Kushalnagar Municipality, the garbage disposal plant is located in Bhuvanagiri village under the Kudige gram panchayat. Comprehensive measures are being taken by the municipality to properly dispose of garbage and avoid inconvenience to the locals, said municipality chief officer Girish. The civic body is installing four new garbage disposal machines at a cost of Rs 75 lakh and adopting new technologies, including segregating wet and dry waste, at a cost of Rs 33 lakh. The civic body is also taking measures to prevent bad odour in the vicinity of the plant, he said.
Waste Segregation and Recycling Benefits
Waste segregation has helped the situation, and recycling the waste is generating funds to support the plant's development, said health officer Uday Kumar. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Kushalnagar Rotary Club, SLN company in the Kudlur Industrial Center has installed a machine at a cost of Rs 20 lakh from the CSR fund to facilitate the conversion of raw waste into fertiliser. This initiative further enhances the plant's capacity to manage waste sustainably.
