The Gurugram police have arrested the owner of a real estate firm for allegedly duping a client of Rs 17 crore in a land deal fraud. The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was taken into custody from his office in Sector 14 on Tuesday.
Details of the Fraud
According to the police, the complainant, a businessman from Delhi, had approached the accused's firm in 2019 to purchase a plot in Sector 65 of Gurugram. The accused promised to provide a clear title and deliver the plot within six months. However, after receiving the full payment of Rs 17 crore, the accused failed to transfer the property and started avoiding the complainant.
Police Action
The complainant filed a complaint at the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Gurugram police in 2021. During the investigation, it was found that the accused had sold the same plot to multiple buyers and had no intention of delivering the property. Following a detailed probe, the police arrested Rajesh Kumar from his office.
The accused was produced before a local court, which sent him to two-day police custody. The police are investigating the case further to ascertain if any other individuals were involved in the fraud.
This arrest comes as a relief to the victim, who had been pursuing the case for over two years. The police have urged other potential victims to come forward and file complaints if they have been duped by the same firm.
