Belagavi: Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar has welcomed the central government's decision to sanction Rs 15 crore for the improvement of three key roads covering nearly 22 km within the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
Approval and Fund Release
In a release, Shettar stated that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari approved the proposal and released funds for the road development works. He recalled that a few months ago, he had met Gadkari in New Delhi and submitted a proposal seeking financial assistance for nine road repair projects covering approximately 80.3 km of damaged roads across the constituency. The proposal had sought an allocation of Rs 86.4 crore.
First Phase Projects
Following the request, the ministry has approved three projects in the first phase. These include:
- Desur–Nandihalli–Kukadolli road (12 km) in Belagavi taluk at Rs 8 crore.
- Bijagarni–Kavalewadi–Janewadi–Karle–Bahaddurwadi–Kiniye link road (5 km) connecting to State Highway-54 at Rs 4 crore.
- Chivatgundi Cross to Chivatgundi stretch (5 km) in Bailhongal taluk at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore.
Expressing satisfaction over the sanction, Shettar said the projects would improve connectivity, facilitate smoother transportation, and provide much-needed relief to commuters and residents in the affected areas.
Future Prospects
Shettar also expressed confidence that the remaining road projects proposed under the CRIF scheme would receive approval in due course, further strengthening connectivity and boosting economic activity across the constituency.
