Amazon Inaugurates Major Corporate Campus in Bengaluru, Strengthening India Presence
Amazon has officially launched its expansive new corporate campus in Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in its operations across Asia. This facility stands as the company's second-largest office in Asia and its second-largest single-building corporate office worldwide, underscoring India's growing importance in the global technology landscape.
A Sprawling Hub for Innovation and Operations
The newly inaugurated campus spans an impressive 1.1 million square feet across 12 storeys, strategically located on a five-acre site approximately 15 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport. The grand opening ceremony took place on February 23, 2026, with Dr. M.B. Patil, Karnataka's Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, presiding over the event.
This state-of-the-art facility is designed to accommodate more than 7,000 Amazon employees working across diverse domains including ecommerce, operations, payments, advanced technology development, and comprehensive seller services. The campus represents a substantial physical manifestation of Amazon's commitment to India's digital economy.
Advanced Workspace Design and Employee Amenities
The Bengaluru campus features innovative workspace organization with adaptable areas divided into distinct "neighbourhoods" to foster collaboration and productivity. These include:
- Numerous meeting rooms and huddle spaces for team discussions
- Breakout zones for informal interactions and creative thinking
- Event areas capable of hosting gatherings of over 200 people
Beyond work areas, employees enjoy access to extensive recreational facilities including basketball and pickleball courts, a spacious amphitheater for presentations and gatherings, beautifully landscaped lawns, and inviting outdoor community spaces. The campus also features cafeterias spread across two floors that offer a diverse selection of global cuisines to cater to varied tastes.
Substantial Investment and Environmental Commitment
Amazon has already deployed over $40 billion in investments across India and has pledged an additional $35 billion by 2030, demonstrating long-term confidence in the country's economic potential. Dr. Patil welcomed this expansion, noting that it reflects India's emergence as a global technology hub while strengthening the local ecosystem through the creation of high-quality employment opportunities.
Samir Kumar, Country Manager of Amazon India, emphasized Bengaluru's central role in the company's journey, stating: "Over the years, the city has been home to some of our earliest technology and business teams, and today it remains a key hub for innovation and talent acquisition."
The project incorporates comprehensive environmental strategies aligned with Amazon's commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. These measures include:
- Responsible material sourcing for construction and operations
- Systematic reuse of office assets to minimize waste
- Implementation of high-efficiency systems to reduce both embodied and operational carbon footprints
Deep Integration with Karnataka's Digital Economy
Amazon maintains a substantial operational footprint throughout Karnataka, with 10 corporate offices, 7 fulfillment centers, 3 sort centers, and more than 130 last-mile delivery stations already established across the state. The company's integration with the regional economy extends to its marketplace platform, where over 80,000 sellers from Karnataka actively conduct business on Amazon.in, highlighting the platform's role in supporting local entrepreneurship and digital commerce.
This new Bengaluru campus represents not just physical expansion but a strategic commitment to India's technology ecosystem, combining workspace innovation, environmental responsibility, and economic integration to position Amazon for continued growth in one of the world's most dynamic markets.
