Adani Power Wins Major 1,600 MW Power Supply Contract from Maharashtra

In a significant development for India's energy sector, Adani Power Ltd has announced the receipt of a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL). This contract is for the long-term supply of 1,600 MW of power, sourced from one of Adani Power's upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power projects.

Competitive Bidding and Tariff Details

The LoA was awarded following a highly competitive bidding process, where Adani Power emerged as the lowest-tariff bidder. The company has committed to supplying power at a combined tariff of Rs 5.30 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This competitive pricing underscores Adani Power's cost efficiency and strategic positioning in the market.

Long-Term Power Supply Agreement

Under the proposed Power Supply Agreement (PSA), the power supply is scheduled to commence from the financial year 2030-31. The agreement spans a duration of 25 years, ensuring a stable and reliable power source for Maharashtra. This move is part of a broader trend of renewed investments in the thermal power sector across India.

Adani Power's Growing Portfolio

This achievement marks another significant win for Adani Power during a period of increased activity in the power sector. In the 2025-26 period alone, the company has secured five long-term power supply bids, aggregating to a total capacity of 10,400 MW. With this latest contract, Adani Power has now tied up long-term power supply agreements for 13.3 GW out of its 23.8 GW under-implementation pipeline.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power Ltd, commented on the development, stating, "With India's power demand continuing to rise steadily, long-term and reliable capacity addition is critical to ensure energy security. This LoA from MSEDCL reflects the competitiveness of Adani Power's cost structure, our ability to deliver dependable baseload power, and our commitment to supporting India's growing electricity needs through long-term partnerships. As India's leading private power producer, we are keen to support Maharashtra's and the nation's ambitious development goals with reliable and affordable electricity supply."

Capacity and Investment Expansion

Adani Power is currently expanding its operational capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by 2031-32, with planned investments of approximately Rs 2 lakh crore. More than 95% of its current operating capacity is already tied up under medium-to-long-term power supply agreements, while over 55% of its upcoming capacity is secured under 25-year PSAs. This provides strong visibility and stability in terms of volumes and revenue.

Fuel Security and Reliability

The MSEDCL bid includes a pre-determined coal linkage, which ensures long-term fuel security and supports the delivery of reliable and cost-effective power supply. This aspect is crucial for maintaining consistent power generation and meeting the growing energy demands of Maharashtra and the broader nation.

This contract not only reinforces Adani Power's leadership in the private power sector but also highlights the critical role of thermal power in India's energy mix as the country strives to meet its escalating electricity requirements.
