The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has collected approximately Rs 9 lakh in fines from ticketless passengers during a month-long special enforcement drive, according to an official statement.
Enforcement details
During the operation, KSRTC enforcement teams checked a total of 42,518 buses across the state. They detected 4,353 cases of pilferage, which includes passengers traveling without valid tickets or with underpaid fares. A total of 4,476 ticketless passengers were penalised, and the pilferage amount detected was Rs 1.52 lakh.
The drive resulted in the collection of Rs 8.94 lakh in fines, the corporation said. The enforcement was part of KSRTC's ongoing efforts to curb revenue leakage and ensure compliance with ticketing rules.
Impact on revenue
KSRTC officials stated that such drives are essential to maintain discipline among passengers and protect the corporation's revenue. "The drive has helped us recover significant amounts and send a strong message against ticketless travel," a KSRTC spokesperson said. The corporation plans to continue similar enforcement actions in the future.
