Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted bail to two of the three accused in a cryptocurrency case involving transactions worth more than Rs 50 crore and links with China.
Bail Granted by Justice Chaitali Chatterjee (Das)
Justice Chaitali Chatterjee (Das) granted bail to Sourav Kar and Dhiman Bhattacharjee on the grounds of remote possibility of conclusion of trial. The accused were in custody for more than one year and eight months. Out of 29 witnesses, only three have been examined till date. The court also took into account that the co-accused had already been granted bail.
Conditions of Bail
Kar and Bhattacharjee were granted bail on a Rs 30,000 bond, with two sureties of like amount each, one of whom must be local. They were directed to appear before the trial court on every date of hearing until further orders. The court further instructed them not to intimidate witnesses or tamper with evidence, and not to commit any cognisable offence in any manner whatsoever.
This development comes as a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the high-profile cryptocurrency case.
