The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for five districts in northern Kerala — Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod — for Saturday. These districts are expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall, with precipitation of 20 cm or more within 24 hours.
Alert Levels Across Kerala
On Saturday, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha will be under a yellow alert, while the remaining districts will be under an orange alert. The situation is expected to persist on Sunday, with Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram remaining on red alert. Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasaragod will be under an orange alert, and all other districts will be on yellow alert.
Wind and Sea Conditions
Squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is likely along and off the Kerala coast. In light of these conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until June 9.
Rainfall Data
Kunnathanam in Pathanamthitta recorded 15 cm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Friday. The state has received 27% excess rainfall in the first five days of the current season, up to 8:30 am on Friday.
