A high-level European Union delegation, led by its ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, arrived in Assam on Monday for a two-day visit. On the first day, the delegation visited Tata's under-construction semiconductor facility at Jagiroad in Morigaon district. The delegation was led by Delphin and Didier Vanderhasselt, ambassador of Belgium to India, along with other EU dignitaries.
Blue Valley Cluster Launch
On Tuesday, the Assam government, in collaboration with the European Union, will launch the state's first Blue Valley Cluster, an industrial hub focused on fragrances, flavours, AYUSH, and food processing. This initiative aims to provide direct access to European markets for local farmers and entrepreneurs.
Visit to Tata Semiconductor Facility
Morigaon district commissioner Anamika Tewari welcomed the guests and accompanied them to the Tata Electronics OSAT facility. The district administration stated that the delegation gained first-hand insights into the advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem taking shape at Jagiroad.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed high hopes for the visit. He noted that Assam has transformed from barely featuring in the country's industrial landscape to emerging as a growth engine under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Sarma highlighted that the Blue Valley Cluster initiative would usher in transformative change for farmers by leveraging unique natural resources and creating new opportunities through direct access to European markets.
Focus Areas of the Visit
According to the EU, the visit focuses on value chains across sectors where Europe and Assam share strong synergies. These include renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavours and fragrances, and AYUSH.
The EU stated that this visit highlights the importance of the EU-India digital partnership under the EU-India Trade and Technology Council. It will give European investors a closer look at Assam's business environment, infrastructure, and industry potential.
