Iran Unleashes Mach-9 Missiles, Jet Drones on Israel

Iran on Monday claimed it deployed some of its most advanced weapons during overnight retaliatory strikes against Israel. According to Iranian media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used newly unveiled jet-powered drones and Kheibar-Shikan long-range ballistic missiles in attacks targeting Israeli cities, including Haifa.

Hypersonic Missile Capabilities

The Iranian media described the Kheibar-Shikan as a third-generation missile capable of reaching hypersonic speeds during its descent, making interception more difficult. The missile reportedly reaches Mach 9, or nine times the speed of sound, during its terminal phase, posing a significant challenge to air defence systems.

Jet-Powered Drones Deployed

In addition to ballistic missiles, Iran also deployed jet-powered drones in the strikes. These drones, recently unveiled by the IRGC, are designed to evade radar and deliver precision strikes. Their use marks a new phase in Iran's military capabilities.

The reported strikes came after an Israeli attack on a petrochemical facility in southwestern Iran, which Tehran says prompted its retaliation. The escalation has raised concerns about a broader conflict in the region.

Israel's defence systems were tested by the barrage, with some missiles reportedly intercepted. However, the hypersonic nature of the Kheibar-Shikan may have allowed some to penetrate. The situation remains tense as both sides assess the damage and consider next steps.
