Kanpur: In a collaborative effort with the NGO ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’, Kanpur Metro organized a special awareness programme on the occasion of World Environment Day. During this event, children aged 5 to 12 years conveyed powerful messages on environmental conservation through their drawings at Bada Chauraha Metro Station.
Environment-Friendly Metro System
The children were informed that the metro system, which operates with zero carbon emissions, is one of the most environment-friendly public transport systems available. Following this educational session, the children traveled from Geeta Nagar to Bada Chauraha Metro Station by metro. For many of them, this journey marked their first experience of an underground metro ride, adding an element of excitement to the day’s activities.
Creative Expression and Plantation Drive
At Bada Chauraha Station, Kanpur Metro provided colours to encourage creative expression among the young participants. The children then created drawings focused on environmental conservation. At the conclusion of the programme, saplings were distributed to the participants for plantation, reinforcing the message of environmental stewardship.
On World Environment Day, Kanpur Metro Project Director Arvind Meena, along with other senior officials, planted saplings at the CSA Campus. In total, approximately 150 saplings were planted as part of this drive, contributing to a greener urban landscape.
