Chatra: A series of programmes including a prabhat pheri (morning procession), plantation drive, oath-taking ceremony, and felicitation event were organized in Chatra on Friday to mark World Environment Day. Special recognition was given to Vikas Kumar Singh, principal of Upgraded Middle School, Puraini (Mayurhand block), for promoting environmental education through technology.
Events Under Forest Department Aegis
Organized under the aegis of the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Government of Jharkhand, an awareness rally was taken out from Jataraibagh Chowk to Eco Park, Chatra. Students, officials, and employees participated in the rally.
Dignitaries Present
Deputy Commissioner Ravi Anand attended as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithani, North Forest Division Officer Rahul Meena, South Forest Division Officer Mukesh Kumar, Additional Collector Arvind Kumar, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunny Vardhan.
Plantation and Pledge at Eco Park
At Eco Park, participants planted saplings and took a pledge to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and promote biodiversity.
Felicitation Ceremony
During the felicitation ceremony, Principal Vikas Kumar Singh was honored for developing a barcode-based QR code system for trees on the school campus. By scanning barcodes placed on trees, students and visitors can access information on species, age, uses, medicinal properties, and environmental importance. Deputy Commissioner Ravi Anand termed it “an inspiring example of technology-based environmental education.” Singh, who could not arrive on time, received the award from Divisional Forest Officer Mukesh Kumar and expressed happiness at receiving recognition for his work.
