The Municipal Council of Bahadurgarh has launched a novel initiative called 'Green Bells: Ring a Bell' aimed at curbing plastic waste and fostering sustainable living. The campaign was inaugurated by Jhajjar Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Siwach in the town located on the Haryana-Delhi border.
How the Campaign Works
Under this initiative, special bells and QR codes have been installed at participating shops across Bahadurgarh. When customers visit these shops with cloth, paper, or other reusable bags instead of single-use plastic bags, the shopkeeper rings a bell at the billing counter. This bell serves as public acknowledgment of the customer's environmentally responsible behavior, inspiring other shoppers to adopt similar habits.
Digital Rewards for Eco-Friendly Choices
To further encourage participation, QR codes are displayed at participating outlets. Customers using reusable bags can scan the code and fill in basic details such as name, mobile number, and address through a simple online form. Once submitted, a digital Certificate of Appreciation is automatically generated, recognizing their contribution to environmental conservation and plastic reduction.
Commissioner's Vision
Speaking at the launch event, Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Siwach emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling plastic pollution. He stated that meaningful environmental change occurs only when citizens adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. He expressed confidence that innovative initiatives like 'Green Bells: Ring a Bell' can bring about positive behavioral change and enhance environmental awareness among the public.
Call for Community Support
The Municipal Council has appealed to shopkeepers, traders, and residents to actively support the campaign. Officials believe that this initiative will significantly reduce the use of plastic bags and contribute to making Bahadurgarh a cleaner, greener, and more environmentally conscious city.
