The Appropriate Technology Centre (ATC), Shahpur, observed World Environment Day 2026 by organizing an awareness rally on Friday. The event was held under the theme 'Inspired by nature for climate, for our future', underscoring the critical need for environmental conservation and sustainable living practices.
Inauguration and Key Highlights
The programme was inaugurated by Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania, who began the day by planting saplings at Shahpur Ground. He then flagged off the environment awareness and anti-chitta rally, which aimed to spread messages about protecting the environment and combating drug abuse. Speaking to the participants, Pathania stressed that environmental protection is a collective responsibility requiring sustained public participation. He remarked, 'Planting a tree is not enough; nurturing it until it grows into a healthy tree is equally important,' highlighting the need for community involvement in conservation efforts.
Rally Participation and Route
The rally commenced from Shahpur Ground and concluded at the Government ITI campus. Approximately 300 students from various schools and Government ITI Shahpur took part in the event, carrying banners and placards with environmental slogans. Officers and officials from different departments, along with members of youth clubs and local residents, also joined the rally in large numbers, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and a drug-free society. The event successfully brought together diverse stakeholders to promote awareness and action on environmental issues.
